A member is eligible to purchase an Ancestor Bar of a Revolutionary War Patriot once proven by the DAR Genealogy Department to be an approved Patriot and lineal ancestor of the member. Patriot Ancestors may be verified from either the original member application or from a supplemental ancestor application.
Traditionally, this Ancestor Bar is one of the first Insignia items purchased by new members, and it is part of the popular Insignia Starter Set Combo. Approval is required to purchase.
This pin may only be worn by DAR members on the official Insignia ribbon according to the most current "Placement of DAR Insignia and Pins on Official Ribbon" document found on the Insignia Committee webpage.
The gold-filled or 14 karat gold Chapter Bar measures 1 3/4" x 1/4".
Required engraving includes the name of the Ancestor. The engraving text cannot include Ancestors State of Service or Unofficial Military Rank such as "PS". Please visit the DAR Insignia Store FAQs to see examples of engraving.
