Ancestor bars honor and preserve the legacy of our proven patriot ancestors. A Daughter is eligible to purchase an engraved Ancestor Pin bearing the name of her patriot ancestor to wear on her official Insignia ribbon after her lineage to the patriot is verified by her new member application or supplemental application. Ancestor Pins may also be purchased for ancestors a member "inherits" through the NSDAR Inheritance Project. Approval is required for purchase.
Ancestor bars, both original and supplemental, may only be worn by DAR members on the official Insignia ribbon according to the most current "Placement of DAR Insignia and Pins on Official Ribbon" document found on the Insignia Committee webpage.
This gold-filled Ancestor bar measures 1 3/10" x 3/8".
The Ancestor Bar is engraved with the name of the Daughter's approved ancestor, as found in the DAR approved patriot's record, and appears on the front of the pin. Please visit the DAR Insignia Store FAQs to see examples of the different types of engraving that DAR Insignia Store offers.
Approved military rank, as determined by the Genealogy Staff, attained during the American Revolution may be added to the engraved name. Military abbreviations will be used when engraving the military rank unless purchaser specifies full rank title is requested. Please Note: Only approved military ranks are allowed as engraved text. For instance, Patriotic Service (PS) or Civil Service (CS) are not approved military ranks from the United States Armed Forces.
Traditionally, the Ancestor bar is one of the first Insignia purchases made by new members, and it is included in the popular Insignia Starter Set Combo.
Referring to the DAR Genealogical Record System (GRS) may assist you in proving patriot ancestors.
