The Oregon State Society DAR owns and maintains two historic properties in the State of Oregon: the Newell Pioneer Village located in St. Paul, Oregon and the Caples House Museum Complex located in Columbia City Oregon. Newell Pioneer Village includes the Robert Newell House, Pioneer Mothers Memorial Cabin, Butteville Academy School House and the Butteville Jail. The Caples House Museum complex includes the Dr. Charles Caples House, Children’s Museum, Tea Cottage, and the Knapp Social Center.
The Oregon Historic Properties Pin is in the shape of the bell located outside of the Butteville Academy at Newell Pioneer Village. Thousands of students travel to Newell Pioneer Village each year to tour the museum, learn about Robert Newell and about Oregon Pioneer life in the 1850s. The apple tree on the bell is representative of Caples House Museum and the Heritage Apple Orchard located on the museum’s grounds. The trees in this orchard were originally planted by Dr. Charles Caples and his wife, and the orchard has become a signature feature of the grounds.
In order to purchase this pin, a member must volunteer a minimum of four (4) hours in support of one of the OSSDAR’s historic properties. The State Regent will review and approve each pin purchase request.
This pin may only be worn by DAR members on the official Insignia ribbon according to the most current "Placement of DAR Insignia and Pins on Official Ribbon" document found on the Insignia Committee webpage.
This Gold-Plated pin measures 1 inch wide by 1 1/8 inches tall.
