The Wisconsin Society Daughters of the American Revolution owns a property listed on the National Register of Historic Places, a cabin, known as Fort Winnebago Surgeons Quarters, constructed circa 1816-1819. The cabin, once a fur trader’s home, then Sutler’s Store and Surgeons Quarters for Fort Winnebago, was acquired in 1939 after a DAR chapter in the same town discovered that the property was falling into severe disrepair. As a significant property in Wisconsin’s pre-statehood history, this important ‘rescue’ then in 1939 and now as it operates today as a museum is the result of the commitment of Wisconsin Daughters.
