Earn the DAR Genealogy Preservation pin while helping to preserve the vital information DAR has compiled for over 125 years.

The DAR Genealogy Preservation volunteer can purchase the DAR Genealogy Preservation pin after completing one of the following:

  • 100 equivalent hours of online data entry by indexing 12,000 documents (120/hour) for the Supporting Documentation Project, or
  • 1,500 cards for the Historic Marker Project (15/hour), or
  • 100 equivalent hours for other committee projects or a combination thereof.

For the Descendants Project, each volunteer is responsible for keeping track of her hours.

For the Supporting Documents Project, the program keeps track of the number of documents a volunteer has categorized and shows when the volunteer logs into the project.

Approval is required to purchase this pin and more details about qualifying for it are found on the DAR Genealogy Preservation Committee webpage.

This pin may only be worn by DAR members on the official Insignia ribbon according to the most current "Placement of DAR Insignia and Pins on Official Ribbon" document found on the Insignia Committee webpage.

This gold-filled pin measures 7/8" x 1".

The DAR Genealogy Preservation Standard Bar can be added to the DAR Genealogy Preservation pin for each additional 60,000 documents indexed in the Supporting Documentation Project or completion of at least 500 additional hours for other projects, or a combination thereof. Approval is required.
