There are many opportunities for our DAR members to make minimum donations to any of the various "Friends of" funds to earn “friend” status and purchase that fund's corresponding pin to wear on the official Insignia ribbon.
If a member makes an additional minimum donation to the same fund, she earns that status of “Best Friend” and is eligible to purchase this Best Friend Pin and optional Best Friend Bar engraved with the name of the fund. Interested members may make a single donation or become a Sustaining Supporter by designating continuous monthly donations to one or more of the following Friends funds: Property Maintenance, American Spirit, DAR Magazine, CAR, DAR Library, Seimes Technology Center, Genealogy, DAR Museum, Americana Collection, American History, American Indian Scholarship, DAR Scholarship, DAR Schools, Junior Membership, Junior American Citizenship, or Veterans. Only when the second minimum donation amount is reached by either donation method can this Best Friend pin be purchased. All donations accrue and are credited to your Heritage Club total. Approval is required to purchase this pin.
When this donor pin is worn by DAR members on the official Insignia ribbon, it must be placed according to the most current "Placement of DAR Insignia and Pins on Official Ribbon" document found on the Insignia Committee webpage.
When not worn on the official ribbon, DAR members may only wear this donation pin as a brooch, not on a right-side ribbon. When non-members wear this donation pin, they should demonstrate pride in all DAR stands for by wearing it only when dressed nicely and in a respectful manner.
This gold-filled pin measures 1 1/4" x 1/2".
For more information about making minimum required donations for this pin, please visit the Office of Development webpage.
When a donor becomes qualified to purchase a Best Friends Pin, the special Best Friends Engraved Bar may also be purchased to attach to the Best Friends Pin. Approval is required to purchase this bar.
